Michael Scott, Jr
A native of the North Lawndale neighborhood, Scott has focused his life’s work to building community and a better West Side of Chicago. Scott resides in Chicago’s North Lawndale community with his wife, Natashee and three children, Morgan, Nicholas and Michael III.
Scott graduated from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in 1994 and earned a Bach- elor of Arts degree in Political Science from Morehouse College in 1998.
Through his parents, the late Michael, Sr. and Millicent Scott, both prominent leaders in the city of Chicago, Scott was raised into a legacy of building a strong family and success- ful communities. Bringing resources and developmental programming to the under- served, Scott, Jr. has proven to be a results driven leader in the public and private sectors.
Upon taking office, Scott worked from the Chicago Park District after 12 years of service. Throughout his tenure with the Chicago Park District, Scott worked as a Park Supervisor at the Douglas Park Cultural and Community Center and most recently the Area Manager for the Central Region where he managed 35 staffed and unstaffed facilities.
Now, in his first term, Scott is committed to working side by side with the people and organizations that have built a solid foundation for the 24th Ward.
Creating an economic engine for the community, beautifying the ward, improving the relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the community, repairing the 24th wards crumbling infrastructure and developing affordable housing for residents are Scott’s top priorities during his first term in office.
Alderman Scott serves on the following City Council committees: Budget and Govern- ment Operations; Rules and Ethics; Economic, Capital and Technology Development; Education and Child Development; Housing and Real Estate; License and Consumer Protection; and Finance and is a member of the Chicago Aldermanic Black Caucus.
Since being elected in 2015 Alderman Scott has repaved more than 1/3 of all roads in the 24th ward, allocated funds to completely renovate the Douglas Branch Public Library and broken ground on two industrial plants in the 24th ward with the potential to bring 150 jobs to ward.
Current Alderman Scott servers on the board of directors for the Chicago Center for Arts and Technology as well as an advisory board member of the Chicago Infrastructure Trust.
